Strategic refocussing towards the Hauraki Gulf :

updated april 15 2007 :
Strategic refocussing towards the Hauraki Gulf and its Catchments :

It has become clear that it is critical that we on Waiheke Island understand, co-own, articulate and defend the reality that how we see ourselves is significantly different from how the eyes and minds of our City Council view us.

Despite its protestations to the contrary, the Auckland City Council simply lacks a Gulf consciousness and focus.

An orientation and primary relationship with the Hauraki Gulf Forum and the HGMPA 2000, which encompasses that wider "coasts and islands" context, is a much better fit for our visioning and strategic needs in particular.

See below WISDG submission to the HGF dated March 28 2007 titled "Sustainability as a Community and Governance Issue - a Waiheke Case Study "
& which includes suggestions regarding the Future Structure & Role of the HGF.
